I've seen these odd containers pop up more often on the latest W11 release. Even though OneDrive is set up and working smoothly on the desktop, hiding the icons with a registry tweak hasn't stopped them from appearing unexpectedly. It's quite annoying and distracting.
Be careful not to overlook Microsoft's strong resolve to push you toward using unwanted programs. You'll be happy with OneDrive, won't you?
On OneDrive, Windows 11 has set the default to automatically sync your Desktop, Photos, Videos and Documents. If you have more than 5GB of storage, you can disable this feature. Navigate to OneDrive Settings > Sync and backup, then select Manage backup. Uncheck any folders you don’t want synced. It’s worth noting that 5GB was quite generous back in 2010 when it was known as SkyDrive, but now it feels almost insufficient compared to Apple’s offerings.
