I thought setting up Ubuntu would be straightforward, but it hit a snag. The process halts at this point: the system identifies as an Asus K55N laptop. I verified the ISO hash against the official site, which matches. Could something be wrong with the media or the download? I used Rufus 2.14 to make the bootable USB.

The file you saved works correctly, but is your device generating the same verification result?

You're unsure about the verification process, and Rufus may modify files to create a bootable image, which could affect the hash value.

That would alter the hash. You can't burn a DVD.

I just had another idea. Consider installing a backup disk if the primary one fails.

No problem, your tablet lacks an optical drive.

Your internet connection is quite poor until you can get your ISP to upgrade the router. Right now it's only operating at 2.4GHz, and it drops when someone uses a microwave oven.

Have you considered using another USB stick? It might be a faulty one.

Consider this simple approach. I've used it on Linux with KVM, and it functions well. Just connect your laptop's hard drive to the computer and set it up as a virtual machine, then install the software through that VM.
