I own an i7 8700k with 16GB DDR4 at 3600MHz and an RX 6700x. My motherboard failed yesterday, so I’m looking at new motherboards (Z390 series) on eBay for under $100 or used ones for $50. Should I upgrade to a newer platform or stick with my current setup? The 8700k works well for me, but I’m unsure if spending $50–$100 on a new board is worth it compared to upgrading to something like the 5700X with an AM4 motherboard.

Consider a more recent system. Your 8700K is likely easy to sell. It performs better than the Ryzen 3600X, and the Ryzen 5000 offers a significant upgrade. The Ryzen 5700X3D would be the best fit for you.
