So I thought maybe I messed up by taking out my motherboard and CPU. After installing the stock cooler for the Ryzen 3600, I received an aftermarket one in the mail. When I tried to take it off the heatsink, it pulled the CPU straight out of the board. Looking closely, it seems the CPU is stuck to the heatsink somehow—this has never happened before. The stock cooler came with what looked like pre-applied paste that I hadn’t noticed but didn’t want to ruin. I’d love some advice on what to do next.

Gently maneuver the wire through the CPU and cooler with care. Keep the CPU steady so it remains in place during the process.

the processor appears tightly attached to the cooling fins, it doesn’t move at all and the cable isn’t fitting properly between the heatsink and the CPU—there’s no room left.

You’ll have to keep attempting the floss or employ the plastic holder that came with the CPU to grasp its sides and turn it.

To fit a cooler, the CPU socket needs to be secured—installing it safely is essential. For maximum heat dissipation, consider using an oven set to around 150°F for some time to melt the paste, and use higher temperatures if the heat sink isn’t covered in plastic.
