I upgraded my setup two weeks ago. The current specs are a Ryzen 7 5800X with an Asus ROG Strix B550-E B550-E 8x2, 16GB F4-3600C18D-16GTZRX. If I want 32GB RAM, using the same type would work, but there might be some performance impact.

Yes, it functions properly as long as you use DDR4 with matching CAS latency (CL). You can choose any RAM configuration; only the slowest component determines the overall performance. Edit: No performance drop will occur.
