VLC isn’t working properly. It seems I’ll need to switch to Windows Media Player. That would probably slow things down. Recording audio without picking up speaker noise is tricky—using a headset might be necessary.

You mentioned a concern, but it seems you're suggesting disabling the speakers. That would stop your game audio and any recordings from playing.

Turning off the speakers shouldn't affect recording in Audacity; it should stop capturing audio.
