I set up a stable server for playing Minecraft with friends. My pals can reach it using my PC's IP address, but when trying to connect over my home Wi-Fi it fails and keeps searching for the server. However, using mobile data works fine. Everyone is running Minecraft on Android, and the issue lies in the server not joining when connected via home network versus mobile data.
Connecting to your external IP address or your localhosts IP?
I'm playing on a different Android device connected to the same network as the server, not the one hosting it. The server appears as LAN under Friends when connected, but it doesn't show the problem when trying to join via home Wi-Fi or mobile data. I've used both my server's IP and my public IP, but my friend can play without issues while I'm stuck finding the server.
That's unusual. The other possibilities I considered include: you might have enabled port forwarding on your router or modem from the external IP to your Android device running the server, or you could have configured DMZ on your router. Have you tried setting up your Android device in a DMZ mode? Also, is there a dual-band Wi-Fi configuration—like a 5GHz and a 2.5GHz network? Are both bands using the same wireless speed? With the 2.5GHz band offering better range, I’ve noticed that when I’m outdoors switching to 2.5GHz, my Android device can’t connect to the security cameras on the 5GHz network. It’s strange you sometimes see it under LAN but it disappears.
Your router appears set up properly for internet port forwarding, but enabling NAT reflection could improve your connection.
