Over the past two weeks, occasionally during gameplay, half of the PC programs stopped working while the other half remained functional. Recently, playing Path of Exile caused the whole system to freeze. The game had difficulty closing and the task manager slowed down significantly, making it hard to shut down. Restarting Steam led to freezing issues, and launching Apex Legends also triggered repeated launch attempts followed by crashes. CrystalDisk took a long time to boot and didn’t display the drive, which I believe is failing. This issue appears only when using the 2TB Kingstong NVMe SSD (under a year old) on the C drive, with PoE and Apex installed. My browser and Discord work normally, but these problems seem tied to the storage device. I’ve shared this before without getting clear answers, especially since others suspected hardware faults. If you think my GPU is the cause, please let me know. If you suspect the SSD is the problem, I’d appreciate your input. Replacing the drive might be necessary despite the cost.
Whenever this occurs, the crystal disk fails to display the drive. However, once all applications on the disk are closed and it rests quietly for some time, functionality resumes normally and the disk again appears to show the drive.
The drive works fine now. It doesn't require booting in safe mode since it appears again whenever the issues resolve. This occurs repeatedly now.
The task manager displays full utilization of the specified drive during that period.
Seems like a fresh setup for you. Could be related to the PCI-e lane you mentioned? That’s quite unusual. Do you have another M.2 port available for swapping?
You might want to test your hard drive using CrystalDiskMark for better understanding.
