Hey there, hope this helps. I just returned from a week-long break and was eager to dive into some fresh video games. I picked up "The Forgotten City," which is described as extremely demanding. Right when I started, my second monitor began flickering—about 3 to 5 seconds on, then back to 3 to 5 seconds off. I thought it might be a Nvidia driver problem since my audio cut out and the speakers sounded bad. My graphics card was at full speed (3070 TI) and running at 84°C. In the Task Manager, I saw it at 100% usage. I tried lowering the settings to medium and it seemed to stabilize. After restarting, it would spike back up to 100%. That’s odd. Then I heard a faint pop when everything went silent—lights stayed off, no sound. When I disassembled it, I thought the motherboard was damaged; it wouldn’t power on at all. I built this system around December 10th and had been using it regularly for weeks. Earlier, my second screen would flicker, turning off for a few seconds before coming back on during Deep Rock Galactic. Any tips on what might have gone wrong or how to confirm everything is fine when I replace the board? Thanks a lot!
Use a flashlight to inspect the mobo for any signs of fire. Check for any burnt odors, particularly near the CPU socket and IO panel. Look for heatsinks and see what they look like. Also consider if the PSU protection circuit has tripped—try leaving it off briefly before powering it back on.
The initial eight figures on the PSU are 19444800 through 20114880. It's worth verifying if this is the correct range.
I could try the GPU on another machine or switch to a different one inside the same setup. You might also want to replace the PSU if that’s the issue. (I’d think so if you’re not seeing any power indicators.) Corsair has issued a recall for the SF series—make sure your serial number is included. https://www.pcgamer.com/corsair-recalls-...xt=Corsair has issued a recall, cause the PSU to fail." Review your motherboard’s diagnostic lights and consult the manual to understand what’s preventing it from booting if any lights appear.
KF! Due to it being an Intel KF CPU, It would not boot unless a GPU is in the slot. Happened to have a duplicate due to some Amazon deal shenanigans that I was about to return. Plugged it in. It works like a charm. Looks like the GPU blew up... Time to get my money back! Thanks y'all for the quick reply
The issue didn't involve any burning odor, and there were no signs of fire. It turned out the problem was due to a KF Intel CPU.
