I believe your computer has damaged two power supply units, and I’m not sure what steps to take next.
Hello, my PC was assembled in 2016 and has been functioning properly until recently. One time it stopped working suddenly. When I turned it on, all the fans and lights activated, but it shut down right after a second. The motherboard LEDs remained operational. After several troubleshooting steps, I realized the power supply unit was faulty. I verified this by connecting a spare PSU from an older machine and it worked perfectly. I ordered a replacement and purchased the EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GT. I avoided buying a low-cost unit before, as I had used an inexpensive 500W PSU earlier. After installing the new one, it operated smoothly for about a week. However, a similar issue occurred again—my PC would shut down abruptly, though I managed to enter BIOS briefly before powering off. The old PSU behaved similarly, only activating briefly before failing instantly. It’s puzzling. Fortunately, the supplier who provided the new unit agreed to send another one. I tested it and it functioned well. Still concerned about long-term use, I unplugged it to be safe. I suspect the problem might not be hardware-related but could involve a power outlet or connection issue. Additionally, I noticed a message reading “Overclock 25%” appears during startup on my ASUS motherboard, even though I never enabled overclocking. Could this be connected to the situation? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your help! My specs: GPU – MSI GeForce GTX 960, Gaming 2GB CPU, Intel Core i5 6600k, RAM – 8GB DDR4, Storage – M.2 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD, Motherboard – ASUS Z170-A.
It might be the motherboard issue—look for bent, burnt, or warped capacitors, plus dust buildup. Also inspect missing or damaged resistors and cables. Since the board is old, the CMOS battery could be a factor. Have you replaced it? Did you attempt to reset the BIOS settings?
