I believe we're in the peak era of gaming.
I strongly disagree with that perspective. I really enjoyed the NES and arcade titles such as Double Dragon during my childhood, but the Xbox 360 period has always stood out to me.
It was an outlier, not the norm. I used to rush home from elementary every day to buy PS2 DBZ games and spend hours playing until bedtime. Back then I wasn’t wealthy, so my options were limited, which kept me coming back for more without getting tired. Now I’m bored with games much faster, and most of my friends share that feeling.
I believe the generalizations aren't entirely accurate. My preferred titles are RPGs, and the XBox360 and SNES periods stand out as ideal for them, which also explains my favorite gaming times (though I think the earlier eras are great too). For fans of fighting games, the 90s were a golden era. If you enjoy platformers, the NES age was likely the best. Recently, MMOs have shown strong performance over the past decade.
You mentioned enjoying RPGs, but didn’t specify the PS1/2 era—those games really stand out! I also started with the SNES, getting all the titles that were released at the time.
I like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Chrono Trigger, and FF III the most.
