I believe there might be an issue with your GPU or motherboard. Here are some suggestions to help identify the problem.
Good evening,
In July I purchased a new PC after putting in a lot of effort. The main issue is that it doesn’t perform as expected. I suspect the GPU or motherboard might be faulty, but every tip I get is appreciated.
My problems include low frame rates in most games and occasional screen blackouts. The fans spike to 100% for about five seconds before returning to normal. I can only fix this by performing a hard reset. After that, I need to check my power cables from the GPU or ensure the GPU is properly seated on the motherboard.
Here are my specifications:
Motherboard: MSI PRO Z7980-P WIFI
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 RAM 32 GB 6400 MHz
CPU: Intel Core i9-14900K
SSD1: Samsung SSD 970 EVO plus 500 GB (for Windows only)
SSD2: Samsung 990 PRO 4TB SSD (for other drives)
Power supply: Corsair RM1000e
CPU cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite 360
GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 4080 Super 16G Ventus 3X OC
Thank you for your assistance!
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Your motherboard is running MSI PRO Z7980-P WIFI. What BIOS version are you using? I’d have chosen a more advanced board if you hadn’t selected it alongside an i9-14900K.
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 32 GB at 6400 MHz
Are the slots A2 and B2 available on your motherboard? Do you have a link to the RAM kit you’re using?
SSD1: Samsung SSD 970 EVO plus 500 GB (specific to Windows)
Is this storage device from a previous build?
You didn’t mention the case details or how the AIO is installed. Regarding AIOs, what speeds do you observe when the system freezes under heavy load? Also, which games are you currently stress-testing?
Next, I’d like to tweak my power cables from the GPU or optimize its placement on the motherboard.
Are the GPU connector pins securely fastened?
The discussion was moved from the Graphics cards section to the Systems section.
Hello, thank you very much for your reply!
Here’s a summary of my setup:
System Specifications:
BIOS Version: 95.03.44.00.6A
RAM: [link]
Case: NZXT H9 Flow
Both SSDs are brand new.
Cooling and Temperatures:
My cooler is installed on the top of the case, which I’ve learned helps with pump performance.
System Temperatures:
During gaming:
~60°C for both GPU and CPU
While watching YouTube videos:
~30°C (CPU) and ~40°C (GPU)
Games Played:
I enjoy a range of titles, such as Ready Or Not, Raft, EFT, FC 24, Truck Simulator, Rocket League, GTA V, Car for Sale, and Into the Flames. Even less demanding games like Raft and Rocket League sometimes cause problems.
I’m confident my connector is properly seated. I heard the click when plugging it in and saw the lock engage. I gave it a gentle push to confirm it was tight.
Would you suggest an upgraded motherboard? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Screen going black and fans reaching 100% usually indicates a power problem. It's recommended to first unplug the device, then disconnect all cables from the PSU, and repeat the process specifically for the video card and EPS12V side.
