I begin playing outlast, thinking it was just a regular game yesterday. I went to sleep and had a nightmare—I opened my eyes to see that scary lady in the white dress. I started screaming, and now all my family thinks I'm crazy. I'm 16 years old, female, and wondering if my brain is just playing tricks on me.

Give it a warm embrace, but be honest—do you truly appreciate it?

Remove the application, isn't this title rated M? (Ages 17 and older)

I've had some experience with nightmares and I can tell you that life events can influence your dreams. This means your mind creates the overall story rather than making up every detail yourself. Your family's teasing about having a nightmare is pretty much unnecessary—just let them know it's not your fault. People who don't have nightmares often don't see how intense or frightening they can be.

It's normal to have dreams about things that caught your attention before bed. It's just a mental activity if it doesn't bother you, but stop if it keeps looping. That's all.

Your mind can't cope with such intense fear. Spending too much time on the game has left you anxious and stressed, which is why you're having these nightmares. If you want to try really scary games, start with mildly frightening ones first.

Consider beginning with Resident Evil games, not the latest ones—opt for the HD remaster of 1, then progress to 2 and 3. After that, shift to Silent Hill. Games like Amnesia offer a unique kind of tension, engaging your thoughts and exploring deeper fears that can feel even more intense than facing a mutated creature.

Really, that could be some kind of spirit. It might be wise to summon the Ghostbusters.
