I am considering upgrading my platform?
hey guys, i got a pc with an intel i5 14600kf processor, a msi z690 tomahawk motherboard, an rtx 4070 ti graphics card, and 32 gigs of ddr4 ram. right now i am thinking about swapping out the ddr4 to ddr5 memory, upgrading my motherboard from a z690 to a z790 so i can get rid of the limited amount of ram on the z690 board, but keep using the same processor. i feel like this processor is really good for gaming and should be enough to handle all games well. am i making the right move or should i just wait until i upgrade everything else? i am a little bit confused about what to do so please help me with my thoughts. thank you so much
spending the money and time isn't worth it. upgrading your memory won't help you much while playing games because your CPU is already one of the best options for gaming right now. You can't really do better on this setup, and moving to an AMD platform with a B850 board, 9800X3D processor, and lots of new RAM just won't make up for it. Even at high resolutions like 4K or 1440p, your graphics card is the main problem, not the computer.
DDR4 and DDR5 are basically about the same speed right now. Once you leave behind built-in graphics cards, having a very fast memory stick doesn't really mean much. So what part of your setup isn't working well? If you want to swap out an I7 or I9 processor, it will add more processing power for certain programs like batch tasks but won't help gaming as much as the extra money could get you from upgrading to something else. An i9-14900K would give you a little bit of extra power when playing games.
