RAM only works if you buy them as a pair. Put one set in slots A1 and B1, and the other in slots A2 and B2. The parts might have different numbers or codes from the kits. If it won't start, try swapping them into slots A2 and B2 instead.

That setup isn't supposed to have two sticks of memory at once.

I didn't think that was a problem. But I've made three computers before this one, and I never had trouble with memory chips before. Even when I used different pairs of RAM sticks in the same machine without issues, nothing broke up. Now I'm going to set it up exactly as you told me to, and then share what happens afterward. Thanks a lot!

I plugged in two RAM sticks, one on each side of my board. That didn't work at all to start. It seems only one stick fits, which is sticking out from in slot B2. Maybe I need to refresh the motherboard?

Using four DDR5 sticks is usually a bad idea if you want slow speeds, especially on cheap motherboards. Are you checking that your other sticks actually work when plugged into slot B2? What lights show up if you add more than just stick in B2? Did you try putting two sticks in A2 and one in B2 (making sure they are from the same kit)?

I tested using A2 and B2 slots and the lights keep flipping between RAM and CPU. The monitor also won't turn on unless I plug in just the B2 slot. Even when I tried connecting A1 and B1, the same flashing light pattern appeared with no response from the screen. If you were buying a new board, which one would be better for me?

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-Z790-TOMAHAWK-WIFI It makes me think it's either the CPU or the motherboard to fix. Neither one is simple to test without swapping out other parts. I do think looking closely at the pads on the CPU and the pins in the socket helps make sure there isn't any physical damage. If that looks fine on both sides, then I'd suggest replacing the motherboard first since CPUs rarely fail right when they come out of the box.

Just a little note, did you look at the link where I got the build? It says $1500. I picked all those parts that were recommended for that plan and just changed one thing: instead of liquid cooling, I used an air cooler like in the picture. Does anyone know who makes these recommendations on this site? My hopes are high to follow the recipe exactly on a set build.
