I altered registry settings, but Windows 10 refuses to run executables or boot the installation media.
I worked with a registry modification and hoped it wouldn’t damage my motherboard. For RivaTuner on Halo Infinite, I needed access to the WindowsApps folder, so I used this method which helped but didn’t resolve the issue with adding HaloInfinite.exe to the custom profile in RT. Windows kept saying I lacked permission. I searched online and found a registry edit guide, though I didn’t back it up. I tried changing settings except for HK_CURRENT_CONFIG, then adjusted others. After rebooting, I couldn’t run any EXE files—except Chrome—and the start button stopped working. The system boots but won’t load explorer.exe or play sound. I attempted to run sfc /scannow via cmd, which prompted an admin prompt. No solution found; I’m considering a clean install or using Windows 10 installation media. My USB drive is formatted with the ISO, but it doesn’t boot. There’s also no “ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES” group in HK_CLASSES_ROOT. Need advice.
Can you access the recovery mode? Press Win+I and select "Get Started" under "Reset this PC." Regardless of the options you pick, you'll perform a full reinstall of Windows, which will clear the registry. Alternatively, if you have a restore point, certain updates may trigger it automatically. It might not be ideal, but it’s worth a try.
Thanks for the advice! The run box didn’t respond, but I managed to reach the restore point screen using the command prompt. I executed "shutdown /r /o" and found the Advanced Boot menu. I had a restore point from a few days prior, rolled it back, and it worked perfectly. Now everything is back up and functioning. Also discovered that the latest RivaTuner beta supports Halo Infinite—definitely worth the effort!
