i was attempting to connect the hdmi cable to the gpu while it was powered on, but i didn’t remember it was already connected. i started moving it around to fit in and accidentally removed the pcie connector, which caused panic. i quickly turned it off and then tried reinserting it and turning it back on. when i checked the gpu status, it detected it, but when i opened task manager it wasn’t showing up. i played a game and received an error stating my gpu isn’t compatible because it’s an intel hd (my rx 550). please help me resolve this.

You might have damaged your GPU. It indicates an Intel HD model, which is part of your built-in graphics card.

Early in 2013 I faced a similar issue with a card I built outside its case and connected to a dGPU. The I/O plate would hang and pop out while under stress. Eventually it worked for me once I returned it and upgraded to the newer model. Based on my experience, the card performed poorly, but that's just one example.

Confirming the HDMI connection is correctly placed on the card, not inside the motherboard's HDMI port.

Verify by testing the GPU on a different machine to check functionality. The issue might stem from a faulty card or a damaged PCIe port.

It functions once more after I reinstalled the driver, so thank you.
