I found the possibility of running Hyper-V on Windows 8.1. As someone new to IT, I’ve worked with Hyper-V before to set up a small virtual business. My concern is: will it slow down the host system beyond what the VMs consume? Thanks! - Marius

Yes: Hyper-V sits right at the heart of the OS, acting as an extra layer between you and the hardware. This makes the host feel like another guest, almost indistinguishable from other operating systems running alongside it. The diagram could clarify this better, but Microsoft makes enabling it smooth. You usually won’t notice unless you’re testing. If you enjoy Hyper-V, keep it on; if not or you face issues, turn it off. Also, disabling it helps when checking hardware problems, as tools like CPU-Z may show incorrect data.

You can simply shut it down and it should reset to its default state.

When you don’t launch a VM in Hyper-V, you won’t experience any slowdowns.
