Hyper-V and Wake On Lan
Hyper-V and Wake On Lan
Hi, I'm facing an issue with Hyper-V and Wake On LAN. Previously, it worked fine for waking the host PC. After installing Hyper-V (with VT-x and VT-d enabled), the system won't start using magic packets. The BIOS on my Asus Z97-a has "ErP Ready" and "Power on by PCI-E" activated. Device Manager shows options to allow wake via magic packet, and Power Options have fast startup turned off. I read it might be related to Hyper-V, as the host should stay active while VM clients are woken. My screenshot is in German, but I'm sorry for that. I hope you can help resolve this. Thanks, Max.
For me, the WOL has been inconsistent on non-server boards lacking advanced admin features such as iLo or idrac... You could manually set it up using a Raspberry Pi Zero and a relay to remotely trigger the host's power button. There are also high-end networked KVM solutions that enable remote video and keyboard control, though they come with a higher cost. Regarding guest systems, why not simply run the guest via PowerShell commands like Start-VM?
