I've encountered a problem where my ping suddenly jumps to 1000+ making the game freeze me. I might be in a call with friends and hear them clearly, but the game becomes unresponsive whenever I connect or disconnect. This issue keeps happening even after resetting the router, updating its firmware, and updating drivers. I also tried using https://ping.canbeuseful.com/ for testing. A VPN resolves the problem, so I'm trying to find a solution without relying on it.

Update your entry with complete hardware details, operating system info, and power supply specifications. Mention the disk drive model, capacity, and current status. Specify whether the network is wired or wireless. Use "ping", "pathping", and "tracert" to test various sites, including gaming platforms. The aim is to identify where the spikes originate. Run tests both with and without a VPN. If unsure about commands, search accordingly. No downloads needed—just execute via Windows Command Prompt.

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (6 GB)
System Type: 64-bit OS, x64 processor
Edition: Windows 10 Pro

OS Build: 19045.6456
Connection: Wired
Connected Peripherals:
- Mouse: Glorious Model D-
- Keyboard: Red Dragon RGB

Added note: The problem appears only during games with a Valve connection, such as CS2 or Deadlock. Other titles are unaffected. Playing Valve dedicated servers causes issues, but hosting via third-party servers like Faceit works perfectly.

I haven't used that tool before. Where exactly is it checking the connection to the game server?
I opened two command windows and performed a steady ping to your router at 192.168.0.1 and also to a public IP such as 8.8.8.8.
While playing the game, if you notice problems, quickly switch to see if there are any errors. Problems with your router suggest an issue inside your home.
Searching for issues on 8.8.8.8 doesn't provide much detail.
If everything looks fine with your router but you encounter problems with 8.8.8.8, try pinging 83.110.61.1. I believe this is the first router in your ISP network.
Usually I would test a different hop like 10.0.0.1, but the low latency makes it seem like there might be another router inside your house.
In many cases, you really hope the issue lies between your home and the ISP—or within your own house.
It’s hard to fix network problems in your ISP network or between ISPs.
You might try a VPN, but it’s often unreliable—depending on how the VPN connects to both your ISP and the game provider.
Your traffic could still be using the same congested link.

As previously mentioned. However, it's worth noting that in certain locations games, VPNs, etc., may be restricted, and any alternative solutions could pose issues. Particularly once the connection is no longer managed by your network or your ISP. Stick to the troubleshooting steps suggested by @bill001g.

A spike as high as 1000 is probably just a temporary network problem that can't be fixed, but you've already discovered that using a VPN might resolve it.
The country code "ae" indicates you're from the UAE; you should look for a game server near your location and also explore other servers in the area.

Yhea there were no problems appearing on either of them, but the ping increased again during my test in a match, making me keep reconnecting. Based on what I understand, it seems like an ISP issue with the valves servers.

I reside in the UAE and there are specialized servers for CS2, yet the problem persists.

I discovered a valve server that doesn't seem to provide a seamless experience. It's the only one causing this problem so far.
