Last year I acquired a Huawei MediaPad T3 to use as a laptop alternative because it was much lighter (though I understand they’re not a reliable brand). It cost around £70 at Tesco. As I head back to college soon, I’ll need to get it functioning again. Unfortunately, it runs very slowly—about a quarter of a second delay when swiping to navigate pages. I suspect the RAM usage isn’t optimal, but let’s try it. Can I install Ubuntu instead of Android 7? From what I know about Linux, it’s better suited for older or less powerful hardware. Would it work on this device? Expecting improved responsiveness if I switch to Linux. Would a touchscreen be feasible? Since I don’t use a keyboard or mouse, saving weight would help. I’m not very familiar with mobile hardware, but here are the specs: a 1.4GHz quad-core processor from Qualcomm, 2GB of RAM. I also want to run desktop applications smoothly, so I can code directly on the device without switching to the PC. This would help avoid looking busy when I’m actually studying. Thanks in advance for your help!

Your opportunity to install Linux directly on this device is very limited. There are a few Linux distributions designed for Android, but your model isn’t included in any of them. Each build must be tailored to the specific device. I also don’t find any custom ROM versions available for your system. Therefore, what’s available is likely the least optimal option for this hardware. I suggest starting with a factory reset if you want the best possible experience.
