Hey everyone, after some guidance I’m seeking, I’m working on setting up a subdomain that points to an internal IP address. I’ve already tried rewiring in IIS and using Apache2, but it’s not working well. Any tips or experienced advice would be greatly appreciated!

You're looking for a reverse proxy setup, possibly using Apache or Nginx. It seems you want to manage subdomains and forward traffic securely. The DNS needs to point to the correct server IP before you can handle requests. In practice, tools like Nginx are often used to set up virtual hosts that handle subdomains and redirect them appropriately.

You're looking for a reverse proxy solution, and Apache 2's virtual hosts could work. The DigitalOcean guide suggests using mod_proxy extension for that. Nginx is also a viable option if you're open to it.

Virtual hosts function as reverse proxies. Apply your knowledge; you can achieve this with haproxy, nginx, apache, and even IIS.

I reviewed my previous chatgpt interactions and used the same approach last year. (I run nginx with this setup.) Update the subdomain.example.com and http://10.1.0.1:80 values to match your configuration. Your DNS needs to direct to the nginx server.

Your nginx configuration looks like this:
```
server { listen 80; server_name subdomain.example.com; location / { proxy_pass http://10.1.0.1:80; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-Proto $scheme; } # Extra settings if required # ... error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html; location = /50x.html { root /usr/share/nginx/html; } }
```

Alternatively, you can leverage the Nginx Proxy Manager in Docker for a simpler process.

The problem is resolved. The internal app lacks it, and Nginx is running on TCP443.

Yes, you can turn it off via the configuration file.

Configuring an HTTP subdomain proxy redirects requests from a subdomain to another server. This technique is often used for content delivery, security, and balancing traffic. A reverse proxy like Nginx or Apache is commonly employed. When you have a primary domain and wish to manage a subdomain, it acts as an intermediary for a different service. A basic Nginx setup includes installing the software, creating a symbolic link, testing, and restarting the service.
