HTC support and extended trigger caused CPU throttling without justification.
I was using games on my laptop (all temperatures under 80°C). Suddenly everything stopped working. The CPU settled at 0.4Ghz with unpredictable GPU spikes even after closing the game. Fans spun nonstop. Opened Hwinfo to investigate and saw PROCHOT EX and HTC alerts appearing without reason. Restarting didn’t help. A forced shutdown seemed to resolve it temporarily, but it returned after about 5–10 minutes. This has happened before—last time a forced shutdown fixed it completely. Sometimes a second attempt is necessary. It’s unclear if the problem is hardware or software. I’ve experienced this on my older Asus and newer HP OMEN laptops too. What I tried: swapped AC adapter, adjusted settings, increased thermal limits in x86 tool (which worked on the older Asus), changed power plans, killed the Omen app, restarted. Now it keeps coming up after three forced shutdowns, lasting roughly five minutes before reappearing.
On laptops, this typically happens when the VRMs or power supply components get too hot or are pushed beyond their limits.
