Hey there! So I’m really into old-school gaming gear and just trying it out with some vintage hardware. It’s working pretty well so far, but there’s a hiccup... I’m using an HP Z230 Workstation, which is great for the job. I’ve got two GeForce 9800GT cards, one from Zotac and another from PNY, both free. I’m testing them in SLI mode to see what they can do. The main issue is that the board isn’t set up for SLI yet. I found a Russian developer who made a mod to enable SLI on any mainboard, but it’s pretty outdated now. Most links aren’t working anymore. I managed to get one of the mods running—probably autoSLI—and it’s causing a BSOD because of a corrupted system file. I’m really frustrated and can’t figure out how to fix it. Any help would be amazing!

System Specs: HP Z230 Workstation 400W PSU I7 - 4790 32GB 1600MHz DDR3
Zotac 9800GT ECO 1GB PNY 9800GT ECO 1GB SLI Bridge
Mainboard: Mounted SLI Bridge, Austria (not Australia), English not perfect 😅

Consider testing individual cards first; perhaps one is causing the issue. Update both before trying SLI. Also, check if your motherboard supports SLI even after the updates. Most importantly, ask who provided you the PC for free—since I’m in Austria too, I’d be happy to help with some older hardware if they’re available.

Thanks for the update! The cards seem to be working well after testing. Are you asking about a BIOS update that includes GPU support? I understand these HP boards only support Sli with quadro cards, but I’m curious if it’s possible to adapt them for the hypersli. It would be fun to try, though all links are currently unavailable. Great to hear from a "Landsmann"—our team recently replaced all PCs in our office, and employees can choose any model they prefer.

Are you sure you need this level of effort just for enjoyment? Simpler methods exist to create a vintage setup.

Absolutely, it's a great idea to explore what's achievable against big companies like Nvidia. It's like pushing an old console to its limits—it might not be practical, but it's still worth trying. Someone has to keep experimenting!
