Hello, I'm setting up new RAM for my HP ProDesk 400 G2 MT. It currently has one DDR3 4GB stick, but I bought another identical stick from eBay which failed to boot after installation. I also tried the new stick separately and it didn't work either. The system only started when the original stick was reinstalled, leading me to think the new one might be defective. I then added four 4GB DDR3 G.Skill sticks (two per slot) and still couldn't get a boot. It seems the problem isn't with the RAM or slots themselves. The motherboard model is MS-7860 v1.2. On the photos, the working RAM is in the middle, not on the packaging. I checked the BIOS and found very few options—just changing the boot order. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OEM systems have strict memory requirements, which is why certain RAM isn’t supported. The issue seems to be with the GSkill kit not functioning due to these limitations. It’s also puzzling that identical RAM units fail to boot. Can you tell me what processor is installed in this machine?

Do you have an alternative method for checking RAM performance?

It should start with the same modules, likely the memory is broken. Or the BIOS restricts certain modules based on its serial code.

You're asking if you're interpreting the issue correctly. It seems the device isn't booting even after using the old dimmer settings. Clearing the CMOS and testing one stick at a time might help. Also, checking each dimmer on the board and trying the new sticks in another system could resolve the problem.

It functions with the initial stick. Currently it doesn't match any other stick, even a duplicate purchased secondhand from eBay.

The eBay item might be out of service, and the GSKill version has issues with some OEMs. The only option is to test it in another system to confirm its status.

I discovered an old Dell system to test the stick and it functions properly. This model also features the same RAM configuration, now with three sticks in total. One from eBay and one from Dell. I removed the CMOS battery for some time without powering it, and there was no change. If anything, the situation worsened because the system won't boot with the original stick. I’m running out of options. Unless the motherboard is nearing its end of life.
