Hi, I received a laptop that won’t start Windows at all. It’s a friend’s machine, and I’m unsure what they were doing beforehand. What I expect is a corrupted device. The laptop first boots into its BIOS, but then it gets stuck in the automatic restore screen (the Dutch term for “prepare to boot”). It displays a black screen and loops back to that screen repeatedly. I’ve tried booting in safe mode by holding the power button for about 10 seconds, doing this two or three times, which supposedly launches recovery mode—but nothing happens. It just keeps cycling through the automatic restore. I checked for hardware issues: the F2 boot menu shows no problems, and a full CPU, battery, and SSD scan came back normal. The RAM wasn’t checked, but I don’t think it’s the hardware. It could be a software issue. The machine is an HP Pavilion 15 Help! If you want, I can run another test to check the RAM and see what’s going on.

I completed a complete system verification using the HP F2 interface, and every component tested successfully—including RAM and video memory.
