HP NIC NC552SFP 10Gb issues with SFP (gigabit) switches
In short I put this NIC on my server (a refurbished HP EliteDesk 800 g1) but it doesn’t seem to fit with my switch. I have a TP Link switch SG2218 that supports SFP gigabit, and the cable from that NIC works fine with another SG2210MP (both gigabit). However, connecting the NIC just doesn’t work—lights stay off sometimes, but an orange blip appears when I connect the cable, indicating a link down status. I’m curious if the SFP+ nature of the NIC is the issue, even though both sides should negotiate speeds. I forced 1000M full duplex on my switch’s SFP port, but it didn’t work. The server has Unraid and recognizes the NIC perfectly for things like IP bridging, yet it keeps saying ports are disconnected despite multiple attempts, reboots, and reconnections. I installed this board on my PC, but Windows didn’t detect it, though BIOS showed some settings like speed options (4 fields up/down from 0 to 100), but it didn’t function properly when changed to 10.
It seems unclear about DAC usage, though it might be harder. Quick searches indicate forcing port speed to Gigabit with SFP+ adapters is common, suggesting similar issues for DACs.
