HP laptop fails to detect a newly cloned M.2 storage device.
I own a HP 15t-dy100 with an Intel i5-1035G1 and 16GB RAM. My current drive is an Intel Optane+256GB SSD, but I’m attempting to switch to a Crucial P5 Plus 1TB. I’m facing problems—my laptop won’t boot or recognize the new SSD in BIOS. I used Marcium Reflect to clone Windows 11 and everything appears intact. The Crucial drive is marked as GPT. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Follow these troubleshooting actions in sequence:
1. Switch on the BIOS and change the raid mode setting.
2. Verify the slot where you removed the old SSD matches the one where you installed the new one.
3. Start from the Windows recovery disk and execute startup repair.
4. Perform another clone of the disk, making sure all partitions transfer correctly, then use Macrium Reflect to create a backup.
I’m guessing the problem might be related to Optane. It functions as an extra cache through PCIe/NVMe, so it uses its own partition alongside your 256GB drive. If you clone the drive bit by bit (like with a DDD), Optane data could also copy over, especially if your system doesn’t support it but has enough space. ^SMagics’ article would be a solid starting point. If issues persist, try booting from the NVMe as done on an older HP laptop—toggle CSM/secure boot, install Windows without hard drives, and then access your drives afterward. If that fails, adjusting CSM/SB settings might help. As a last resort, use a USB adapter to transfer files.
