She has been using an HP Pavilion 15-cs3075wm for about a year now. It comes with an Intel Core i7 1065G7 processor, and we've encountered some odd problems such as stuttering and fluctuating clock speeds. Originally shipped with Windows 10, it's now running Debian Linux, yet the issues persist across both systems. She reported similar symptoms in Windows before switching, and I even reinstalled Windows to confirm it wasn't exclusive to Linux. Overall, the machine works most of the time, but it randomly freezes or stutters unexpectedly. Even games like Minecraft Java Edition become unplayable, then suddenly freeze for a brief moment before freezing again. Stardew Valley and other titles also experience stutters. I've attempted to set the CPU to "performance" mode in both OSes to stabilize it, suspecting clock speed instability was the cause, but that didn't resolve the problem. I ran stress tests with Prime95 and Unigine Superposition simultaneously. During these tests, CPU temperatures spiked to around 95°C for a short time before cooling kicked in, suggesting thermal throttling under load. Logs showed irregular readings—high temps with low clock speeds, then sudden drops to near idle. This pattern hints at overheating during spikes, followed by the system trying to cool down. I also observed inconsistent core temperatures and clock speeds while monitoring, which could point to hardware stress or power delivery issues. It's unclear whether temperature management or power constraints are the main culprits.
