I have an HP Elite 8300 SFF that isn’t functioning because the motherboard failed. After checking options, I bought a board on eBay for $67.99. When I tried to install it, the power light stays green briefly after beeps then turns off. After about twenty seconds, the fans speed up. If I connect all four RAM sticks, the light flashes red in time with the beeps, but once any stick is in, it returns to green. I suspect my RAM might not be compatible since the ones I bought were ECC and not non-ECC as listed. I found a non-ECC DIMM on Amazon for $68.12, which seems reasonable, but I’ll wait until my next paycheck before buying it. What steps should I take to fix the PC? Am I on the right path or should I explore another solution?

You're investing a lot for a high-end component while cheaper alternatives are readily available elsewhere.
