I understand this build isn’t perfect, but it’s the best I can manage right now. I got a budget HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF Tower. It came with a Core i5 2400 at 3.1GHz, 8GB RAM, and a 500GB SSD. I added an RX570 4GB, but didn’t get the PSU because I had a workstation’s HP unit available. The power supply I used is the HP L03088-001 – 400W Platinum Plus for my Z240 workstation. Even though I know the RX570 needs around 500W, I’m confident it should run fine with that PSU just to test. I’m not putting much strain on the GPU, but when I power it up, the fans spin and there’s a blue light indicating power, yet the HDMI connection doesn’t show the GPU in Device Manager, and drivers refuse to detect an AMD GPU. Could it be the motherboard is outdated?
It varies based on the 12V supply size. A typical RX570 draws around 180W to 200W on average, with peaks under 300W. A good 400W power supply can deliver about 380W at 12V, considering the 65W baseline of a 2400i5. Even a 300W gold GPU with 290W output will work fine. However, an Antec VP450 provides only 368W at 12V, which is a standard model—don’t expect a GPU manufacturer to require a 500W power supply.
