Windows doesn't recognize Linux partitions because it can't read ext2/3/4 formats. You can reinstall your drive using the Linux installer.

It's not possible for Windows and Linux to share the same drive partition. Windows won't display Linux partitions unless you use a partitioning utility.

It seems odd that Disk Utility displays the NTFS Windows partition as the entire drive. Would GParted reveal its true layout?

Gparted should function correctly. Execute it from a live CD/USB drive.
