How to setup a Barebones Mini pc like UM870 Slim?
Hi, could someone please help me… I brought a barebones UM870 Slim, and because I couldn’t find any setup guide for the barebones version. I just set it up like I would any time I normally build a pc. everything was working fine, after Windows install and Updates… till I seen it didn’t have any of the AMD software, so went on MinisForum, to download all the drivers. this is when the problems started… as soon as I installed the AMD graphics drivers, my monitor kept going black, saying “searching for signal”. I have restarted the pc, deleted the drivers, reinstalled the drivers, tried the repair function on driver install… and nothing is working, it just keeps black screening, randomly, then will get a picture for random amount of time (between 1 second and 20 seconds), before it black screens again (for between anything from 5 seconds to a minute or 2). Any help would be greatly appreciated. kind regards, Staffie85
Thank you for your message. This should work better than DDU since I’ve already removed the display drivers.
Is your display compatible with Freesync? Turn off Freesync in the GPU settings. Alternatively, adjust the refresh rate or reset your monitor. It appears the device doesn't support it and the software might have activated it automatically. If this fails...clear the Windows and reinstall, unless you have a system restore point. Avoid installing new drivers as they could conflict with your screen.
Thank you for the update. The problem with 4K 120Hz isn’t resolved on your setup. Your monitor (Sony M9 SDM-U27M90) supports 4K 120Hz, but the Ryzen 7 8745H in the MinisForum UM870 Slim model doesn’t.
The documentation mentions HDMI 2.1 supporting 4K at 120Hz and 8K at 60Hz. As long as it functions, I’ll settle for 4K at 60Hz since my main use is streaming games and media through a NAS, running ROG Ally and Steam Deck. 4K at 120Hz would be nice but isn’t necessary for my setup.
It functions properly now, provided you keep it at 4K 60 rather than 120.
Staffie85 perhaps the cable you're using isn't compatible with 4K at 120Hz. The GPU's goal with Freesync is to begin at 60Hz and then slowly raise the refresh rate, but something in this sequence can't match that speed. This causes the signal to drop or rendering to fail, resulting in a black screen. You might find better results with a cable that supports both 4K starting at 60Hz and 4K at 120Hz. Alternatively, you could turn off Freesync and set a fixed rate of 4K with 120Hz. A higher, static rate like 75, 90, or 100 could help you identify the exact point where the signal breaks.
