She's experiencing frequent interruptions while using a public modem in a dorm, especially since she's not familiar with tech. You managed to send a batch file to reset her IP settings, which worked immediately but failed later. The issue might be that the modem is assigning the same IP address to multiple users. There’s no built-in option to manually assign a unique IPv4 address in Windows, but you could try using a third-party tool or contacting the dorm’s IT support for assistance.

These instructions reset the actual IP settings when using dynamic configuration: ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew. Using static IPs afterward may cause more issues. You might need additional details to adjust it. START WITH – If you require assistance with your IP range, share a screenshot of the command output: ipconfig /all. PROCEED TO – Open Control Panel, then Networks and Internet, select Network Connections, right-click your adapter (Wi-Fi, LAN, etc.), click Properties, go to IPv4 options, set it manually, and you’re done.

You can't access it on a public network, which is why it's shared. 1. Does she experience the same issue without school Wi-Fi? 2. Is the problem consistent across other areas using school Wi-Fi? 3. Does another device nearby have the identical issue? Try adjusting the computer's angle. 4. If relocating within the room, does the issue persist? Yes to 1 suggests her device. Yes to 2 points to school Wi-Fi. Yes to 3 indicates school network. Yes to 4 means external solution may be needed. Consider an external antenna or contact IT for a repeater. If budget allows, she can handle it herself, but start with the IT department.

She also configured DNS and gateway correctly. The static IP was set manually with the range you provided, but it may conflict with other assigned IPs in the same subnet. The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and the gateway is 192.168.0.1. DNS is set to 192.168.0.1 and an alternative DNS of 8.8.8.8 is also included.

They can also connect to the available Ethernet port in their rooms, which means it's not using Wi-Fi.

She handled it immediately after the connection issues began, and everything has functioned smoothly since then.
