Hello, I decided to try a used motherboard that wasn’t working. The seller mentioned they were using an unsupported CPU (R5 1600), which likely caused the issue. I was correct about that—it works fine with an R5 2600 right now. The main concern is the VRM heatsink on the left side of the CPU. It feels loose when pushed in, then comes back after a while, suggesting the thermal adhesive might need replacing. Everything else seems stable, clocks are good, but I’m worried about overheating if the system expects a heatsink and it doesn’t make proper contact. I want to fix this and need guidance on the best solution. Have you tried both thermal glue and double-sided tape? Which would give better performance and durability?

Can we identify the heat sink or determine the board type? There are several ASRock B450 boards available. It seems likely the device is secured by a single screw.

The cooling pad is fastened onto the rear of the motherboard.

I didn't see any screw holes, but I'll remove them and check again. The upcoming task is to locate an appropriate screw.

Photos usually show screws near mounting points. You can share images of the back panel. To locate a fitting screw, you might need to visit a hardware store.

I see now that there is a screw hole. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Good idea to take it to a hardware store, will do that. In the meantime I've disabled core boost to keep things from heating up,

When a perfect fit isn't available, examine the heat sink. You're likely able to obtain a larger screw and a tap, allowing you to enlarge the hole on the heatsink.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot if needed. First, I should locate the screw holes on the heatsink while it's still attached. The IO cover holds it horizontally, so adjusting vertically should reveal the holes. I can also check photos to confirm placement. I plan to begin with small screws like case screws and work my way up. If that fails, I'll take it to a hardware store.
