I bought an SSD and set up Windows there. The old installation on HDD remains. The old Windows is still on local disk D. Can I remove it without reformatting the entire disk? I’m fine if I just keep local disk D intact.

No need for mysterious spells. A Windows setup uses standard files and partitions. You can just remove the system partitions and delete the folders with Windows. A formatting process might be quicker or simpler, but always back up what you want to retain first.

The device was linked during installation. Files may appear on other drives, but confirm you exited the setup process on the SSD.

I deleted the hard drive due to concerns about accidentally removing the wrong one. The drive arrived three days after installing Windows. After that, I replaced the motherboard.

Diskpart can handle this task for you. Remove the D drive partition and expand the existing C drive partition into the available space. Make sure to back up first, just in case.

D represents an independent storage device (HDD), distinct from the SSD used for C. Unless clarified otherwise, you can just format D or remove all partitions there and start fresh with a new NTFS partition.
