I always connect with the big X across the entire die, whether it's the CPU or GPU. It works perfectly with no problems. Just keep in mind one thing: if you use a conductive TP like liquid metal, be careful not to apply too much—otherwise it could damage components. I usually use EK paste and have never faced any issues.

It might just be insufficient paste initially, especially with the pump-out effect leaving little to form good contact... There could also be reduced mounting pressure than ideal... Additionally, high temperatures in Prime95 aren't meaningful since it's a stress test and doesn't reflect normal operating conditions.

Kryonaut is designed for LN2 overclocking. It tends to spread slowly and can dry out quickly. A small pea-sized spot in the center usually won’t cover the entire heat spreader. I’ve seen better lasting results with Hydronaut. Thermal grizzly products come with a tool that helps spread the paste while applying. I always cover the entire IHS, and this approach has prevented temperature problems. In the past, using the “dot in the middle” method caused uneven spreading and higher temps after removal. Generally, as long as you have enough material to cover the full IHS, the application technique doesn’t matter.
