How to overclock DDR4 RAM
Hey guys,
I’m thinking about purchasing this memory because it looks like the most affordable option at 3200Mhz (£155). I plan to use it with an i5 8600k, MSI gaming rig, and a motherboard. Right now I have a GTX1060 with 6GB RAM but intend to upgrade once the 11 series is released.
My main question is how to overclock the RAM. I understand that XMP profiles can set the rated speed, but can I go beyond it? I’ve had an old system for eight years, so the BIOS is quite outdated and I’m expecting a significant change in the new MSI BIOS. Will the BIOS support higher frequencies, such as 4000Mhz?
Also, I mainly play PUBG and don’t do video editing. Thanks!
Occasionally DIMMs are grouped at the factory to reach their optimal frequency range. This process involves some experimentation without a sure outcome. Adjusting primary timings or slightly raising the DRAM voltage might help, but monitor temperatures closely. Generally, it's safer to maintain your XMP profile and question achieving 4000Mhz with a 3200Mhz board.

Adjusting Primary Timings or slightly raising the DRAM voltage might help, but monitor temperatures closely. Thanks for your response. I’m okay with a small boost to around 3666Mhz or similar. Since this is my first time, I’d prefer to just raise the voltage and see if it works in the BIOS settings.
