How to overclock a ryzen 5 2600
Hey everyone, thanks so much for answering! I just bought a Ryzen 5 2600 with a B450 Tomahawk board. My main idea is to try overclocking it. Some online reviews tell me not to do this at all because it won't work well. So here are my two questions: Should I really go ahead and push the limits? What are the best speeds and voltages I should aim for?
I think you should try to make your RAM timings tighter and put a cooling system in place that keeps the computer cool. If you do this, your chip will be between 65 and 70 degrees when it's working hard or at all. After that, I'd check out PBO (Power Boost) settings to see what speed you can get with power on. If you decide to keep going over normal speeds, make sure not to go above 4.1 gigahertz because that depends on the specific chip you have and stay below 1.4 volts for your CPU while doing it all day long.
I'd say try tightening your RAM timings and make sure your system has good cooling so the chip stays between 65 and 70 degrees Celsius when it works hard. After that, let's check out PBO to see how much boost you get running it. If you decide to go for a 24/7 overclock, I expect you'll hit around 4.1 gigs per second (that varies by your chip), but try to keep the CPU voltage as low as possible at 1.4 volts or less.
I own this 2600 series card. If you are in a really cold place where it's around 15 degrees Celsius, I don't recommend pushing the power with stock fans on. You probably need to upgrade your cooler to something like a Hyper Molex 212 Evo or an LED fan instead.
