I did this often in Windows 7/XP. It was one of the first steps I took with the Windows Classic theme.
I attempted it in Windows 11 but it didn’t work.
I ran a regedit search for the topic, changed the RGB value without success, thinking maybe I’d misplaced the setting. I noted that the change affected the "hilite" color in W7, which was transparent blue and hard to see. I wanted to adjust it but nothing happened.
Am I missing something? Thanks.

Does this match the approach you attempted using regedit?

That's all. A file on my desktop doesn't stand out at all. It's so subtle it's nearly invisible. I think I might be making a mistake, but it's not complicated.

i'm starting to believe I might be looking for the wrong thing. the color i need to adjust is similar to what appears when i pick a file or folder on the desktop. it's currently very light, making it hard to notice. in older versions like XP or Windows 7 Classic, i could change both the selected items' color and the font color at once, which helped me see what i was choosing.
