I recently purchased an HP Smart Tank 5000 Printer and am attempting to install it. However, the software requires Wi-Fi at 2.4 GHz, while my setup uses 5.0 GHz. This is causing major issues with downloading and running the software. I have a USB connection, but the software claims no printer is installed. I'm using my own modem and router. Assistance needed!

For printing, connect via USB. Instead of HP print software, consider using alternative programs like OpenOffice or IrfanView.

I overlooked the initial error when trying to install the software from the HP support site, which indicated my PC's built-in Wi-Fi was configured at 5.0 Ghz. The printer remains set to 2.4 Ghz. I've reset the Wi-Fi to 2.4 Ghz using Windows Device Manager, but the printer still rejects the installation attempts, either online or manually. The motherboard is an MSI Pro Z790-P WIFI. When using the HP SMART Installer from the Windows 11 Store, the program freezes and doesn't function properly. I've managed to get basic print and scanning drivers working, but installing the rest remains frustrating. Because the printer isn't connecting via my PC's Wi-Fi, I'm resorting to a USB cable. This raises another concern: would switching to a different USB cable improve the situation? Thank you in advance for any guidance!

If you wish to achieve wireless printing, you have two options:
1. Purchase a modem that offers a 2.4 Ghz Wi-Fi connection.
For example, my Cisco EPC3940L modem (provided by my ISP) supports both 2.4G and 5G Wi-Fi networks. I use 2.4G when I’m farther from the router and switch to 5G at home office, where my modem is located next to our desktop PCs.
2. Acquire a printer compatible with 5 Ghz.
For instance, my Canon Pixma TS8352 (red) supports both networks. Since it’s in my home office, I set it up to connect via the 5G Wi-Fi network.
Originally, I bought the Pixma TS8250 (black), which only worked on 2.4G. After three weeks, it failed and I returned it. The store provided a newer model, the TS8352 (red), which supports both 2.4G and 5G, and has functioned perfectly for the past five years.

Your Linksys E5600 router and Hitron CODA modem both support 2.4G and 5G. To switch from 5G to 2.4G, you'll need to adjust your settings accordingly.

Three additional points have emerged: initially, my motherboard is an MSI Pro Z790-P WIFI DDR 4. I linked the folding antennas to the Wi-Fi terminals several months back. Could the Wi-Fi module on the motherboard be causing interference with my existing router (Linksys E5600)? Next, the router I referenced includes a WPS function. Following HP's guidelines, I tried using this feature to connect the printer and the router, but it didn’t work. Lastly, every time I attempt to install the HP Smart software, I receive an "Error Code 5" message. This suggests a firmware issue. Might this imply a problem with the printer itself? Thank you for your assistance and advice!

MoBo wi-fi antennas function solely as receivers; they do not generate any wi-fi signal. For instance, you cannot establish a wi-fi network using your PC. Your device can connect to 2.4G, 5G, and 6G wi-fi networks. Detailed specifications are available at the provided link. Do you have the 2.4G network enabled in your modem settings? Refer to the online manual: https://device.report/manual/365983. Locate "Basic wireless settings" and under 2.4 Ghz, choose a "Network Mode" other than Disabled. Enter the SSID (do not leave it blank) and verify the "SSID Broadcast" option. Also, note the Wi-Fi password in the "Wireless security" section. Remove your smartphone if possible and confirm you can see the 2.4G network on your phone. Log in to the network and attempt to access the internet to ensure connectivity. If successful, connect your printer to this network; within the printer, input the Wi-Fi password for connection. Should you encounter firmware issues, the printer may become non-functional. For assistance, contact HP—your printer is covered under warranty.

Yes, I have the 2.4Ghz activated. Based on the details you shared, I'll reach out to HP Support early this morning to ask for a new printer. (I purchased it on December 3rd, which means it's fully covered by warranty!)

Following a difficult interaction with an HP Customer Service representative, I have lost hope about installing the HP software via Wi-Fi. Now I am starting to look for a printer model that does not need Wi-Fi for software and driver installation! Anyone have recommendations?
