Wondering if your friend would agree to let you install Windows on his PC instead of trying it on your system. It might be wiser for him to download a genuine OS from Microsoft, create a USB drive on his machine, and use that. If the virus bothers him, buying an SSD for $30 could be a practical solution while handling the infection.
If you were my friend and brought your infected HDD here, and asked to connect it to my system...I’d feel really offended.

The virus is merely a spyware that doesn't infect RAM or other components. It simply waits and observes my actions. That's all.
They're just making assumptions. Without a real breakdown using tools like Ghidra, you really can't confirm anything.
