I've been using my PC for a few weeks now, and I'm consistently getting 30-40 FPS in games. In video settings too, this setup comes from an older workstation—an AMD Athlon II X4 635. I just upgraded it with a GTX 660 and now it has 6GB of RAM. I'm curious if I can still boost its performance even though the hardware is quite old. All components are available right now.

These components offer limited improvement options, overclocking might be feasible but with minimal gains.

Consider upgrading to an SSD. Running it as a system drive will significantly speed up boot times and file loading. Also, remove unnecessary files from your temp folder and run a virus scan!

I own a second machine with an Athlon x4 640. Its performance isn't significantly better than the 30-40 fps range, though it varies by game. It's puzzling how your CPU manages a 660; mine is already limiting even my HD 6870.

When possible, swap it for an R3 2200G. A $250 upgrade usually brings a stronger CPU and GPU.

In terms of frames per second, the main improvement comes from upgrading the CPU. The performance you're experiencing is limited by the processor speed, and while you could increase it slightly, the gains would be minimal—around 5 to 10 percent at most.
