You can convert an image to black and white by using photo editing software or apps. Look for a filter or mode that lets you change colors to shades of gray. If you're using a mobile app, select the grayscale option. If you're in a desktop program, choose the 'grayscale' setting. Simple and effective!

You might want to consider using another tool for editing, since GIMP isn't available. Since you're planning to work with photos soon, think about what software fits your needs.

GIMP or Paint.NET offer top free options; serious painters should take them seriously, or else painting isn't worth it.
