I have taken apart an old laptop after the case was beyond repair. I’m thinking about repurposing its parts:
Intel Core i5-3230M (Ivy Bridge)
Two 4GB SO-DIMM DDR3 RAM at 1600MHz from Crucial
Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230
An SSD
The whole system was built around a Clevo W551EU Barebone.
These components, though outdated, are still suitable for office tasks, and my basic needs remain the same. I’m curious if they can be used to create either:
(a) a fresh backup laptop on a tight budget
(b) a compact Mini PC
It’s been a while since I assembled a desktop PC. I’m not even certain there are any Ivy Bridge motherboards left.
Do you have recommendations for finding (a) suitable barebone laptops or (b) compatible mini PC boards? In both scenarios, I’m unsure about the best places to look and what to search.
P.S.: Budget under 500$ / 500 EUR, purpose is office work, located in Western Europe. All other details are still pending, this is just a project during my free time.

The final broken laptop I had converted involved taking out the screen, attaching an antenna, and securing the altered base onto a VESA mount. I then mounted it on the back of a television. I use a keyboard and mouse with it as an office setup and it functions very well.

I've viewed several YouTube videos about these configurations. I'm curious about how cooling is impacted in such arrangements. Would you consider removing the closed enclosure and exposing the electronics more directly, as some professionals do?
