I've been using Windows 11 for a short time now, but I'm facing some issues lately. It's not worth it anymore. Can I switch back to Windows 10 while keeping my files? The "Go Back" option in recovery is hidden because I've been on Windows 11 too long.

Ensure your files are saved and reinstall as needed. Since you’ve cleared the rollback window, native recovery isn’t possible unless you had a prior system backup before the upgrade.

No available method to completely back up all your apps. You may need to use specific tools or manual steps depending on the platform.

Programs come with many registry details, making it extremely difficult to preserve them and reinstall cleanly without causing issues

From my perspective, it's more reliable to start fresh and reinstall Windows 10 from scratch, adding apps manually. After completing the installation and setting up the desired applications, consider using a backup tool such as Acronis to copy your drive. Save the backup on an external storage device so you can quickly restore the setup if needed again.

OP indicated a timeframe of several weeks, equating to more than two weeks, totaling 14 days. This implies the 10-day period is no longer available, and Windows performed a cleanup of the Windows 10 backup to revert changes.

You're able to handle these tasks: Each application keeps its own settings (configs) in varied ways, often spanning several locations. Many rely on drivers, like certain games with DRM or anti-cheat mechanisms. Some store files in system folders or elsewhere, requiring extraction and reinstallation. Others depend on services that need registration. Program shortcuts must be recreated manually, and file associations need re-registration. If you have 1–2 programs—especially those with complex setups like Office or Adobe software, or any with drivers or services—it's feasible. It could become a rewarding weekend project to explore how Windows manages data and functionality, offering valuable documentation for those interested in software development. If you're new to this, expect several weekends of effort. The process will be quicker, more reliable, and confirm everything functions correctly by rebuilding everything from the ground up.

It comes later, but it highlights why regular system scans matter. I perform one each month after Microsoft releases updates. I retain the last two months' copies just in case. Most folks only save what’s essential, yet they overlook the worth of a full system image and the chance to recover your OS if things go wrong—like switching to Windows 11.
