Determine the path to install Windows 10 using an updated Windows 7. If you start with a brand-new Windows 7, find ways to bypass updates and proceed directly to the Windows 10 upgrade.
For a clean Windows 10 installation from scratch, follow the official installation steps provided by Microsoft.
Set up Windows 7 by downloading it from the provided link. Execute the tool and choose "save iso" instead of "upgrade".
Alternatively, perform a complete reinstall of Windows 7 and then obtain the Windows 10 download from the provided link.
You cannot add 10 through the Windows update unless you complete all the previous updates first.
The best approach is to perform a fresh installation of Windows 7, then upgrade.
If you're sick of waiting for the update to pop up naturally, you could manually download the ISO from this site. I only did the upgrade myself. But my understanding is that if you want to do a clean install you'll need to install the upgrade, then do a clean install. And if you haven't already, make sure all of your important drivers (sound, video card, peripherals, etc.) have Windows 10-compatible versions before doing this.
