How to ensure Fullscreen optimization remains off.
How to ensure Fullscreen optimization remains off.
Hello,
I heard that flicker might be a sign of full screen optimization being turned on. I’ve disabled that in the compatibility tab for each game, but also turned off GAME_DVR and several registry keys. I even tried editing regedit, which was supposed to help, though. It seems I still experience flicker when loading certain games—possibly related to G-SYNC, but I’m not sure. I’ve used a certified display port cable. I hope full screen optimization is off, since it causes input lag and FPS drops.
Anyone have any advice on how to check if it’s enabled?
Thanks!
Initially, avoid interacting with the registry unless absolutely necessary. Registry modifications should only be considered after confirming a complete backup and recovery capability is in place.
Second, ensure your post contains detailed system hardware specifications and operating system details such as Windows version. Other factors might contribute to the observed flickering.
Please add PSU information (make, model, wattage), disk drive specifics (make, model, capacity, usage), and check Reliability History for any error codes or warnings that align with the timing of the flickering.
Review whether you have adjusted adapter settings to turn on or off full screen optimization. This could relate to particular games or applications.
The main point is to confirm if Fullscreen Optimization is activated or inactive. If yes, using a PowerShell command should retrieve the necessary details.
All disks are fine, though I'm not sure how they could be causing the flicker. I might try it when it happens, but there haven't been any strange error codes recently. This started after I got the PC, specifically during a game load where I noticed it, which hadn't happened before. It seems like something new is involved, such as G-Sync not having a G-Sync monitor before. In Kingdome Come Deliverance, I've heard it can cause flicker too. Yes, it only happens in certain situations, even during loading. I just want to be sure this isn't the problem. Even though the registry entry should disable it, I'm not sure if it's working anymore. I don't know if it was fixed after, and I'm wondering if there are other ways to check fullscreen optimizations. I read somewhere that if it's on, it can lead to flicker! That's why I'm asking.
I found several Full Screen Optimization resources. One Microsoft article seems to cover the topic thoroughly and provides useful tips. The link is https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/d...mizations/. At the end of the piece, there are steps for troubleshooting and adjusting game settings. Another suggestion is to relocate your thread to PC Gaming, where you might get more targeted advice from the community.
What you are asking about is verifying whether the feature is active or not after enabling it. It seems you want to confirm if the setting has been applied correctly. The process involves checking the compatibility tab and ensuring the option is turned off for fullscreen optimizations.
That is the part of the link you mentioned.
Adjust the environment for one of your games.
Run the game. Did the flicker continue?
If not, try a few more options.
Be very careful and test carefully.
Since I’m running out of ideas, I’m shifting this discussion to PC Gaming.
Someone there might understand the issue and provide further advice.
Well i said that at start of my post, that i check this for every game
😀
I know only about 2 games where it happens now, still it is weird. I just want to know how to know, if fullscreen optimization is off, that's it!
When you start your computer, open PowerShell and execute the "Get" command as shown in #2. Check the property at HKCU:\System\GameConfigStore. The expected value for GameDVR_FSEBehaviorMode is "GameDVR_FSEBehaviorMode ". A number of 0 indicates it's enabled, while a number of 2 means it's disabled. After launching the game and running the command again, verify the change. If you chose to disable Full Screen Optimization, the value should match what the Get command returns. If not disabled, it should remain 0.
It's about the GameDVR_HonorUserFSEBehaviorMode entry. I saw someone attempt to set it, but it always resets after a restart. I think there might be something similar, though I'm not sure how to check if it's actually off. If it should be off, but people say it doesn't work, it's confusing. Windows can behave unpredictably sometimes.
I noticed this version is outdated, possibly from 1903. It seems the fix might not have been applied. The values for honoruserFSEBehavior and honorFSEWindowsCompatible were reset to zero after a restart. There was a workaround suggested to delete certain registry keys in games, but I don’t remember where they are or if that affects FullscreenOptimizations. I’m unsure how to confirm the settings without more details.
