Hey everyone. After years of using a laptop with a broken 2070super (seriously, no one talks about that), I’m finally ready to invest in a new desktop.
I work with 4K video editing on Adobe.
I’d love to use my VR headset at full resolution (HP Reverb G2).
I need the ability to play AAA games at near maximum performance, preferably high.
In the end, I’ll have 2-3 monitors.
I also stream on Discord for the squad.

Solid construction, good idea with the NVMe drives. From a budget perspective, if I chose a Costco prebuilt unit for this price (around 1700 after taxes), would it still serve me well for at least five years? I’m planning to build my PC, but losing about 20% of computing power for $5 to $700 might be worth considering. Any thoughts?
Your ideal specifications are a resolution of 1080p and 1440p or 4K, which place different requirements on your hardware. In summary, you might be overpaying for CPU, HDD, and motherboard components. Also, keep in mind that the new NH-D15 is launching soon, so you may want to hold off if you're after that cooler. It's still a solid investment, even though there are cheaper options available.
Here are the adjustments I recommend:
- Replace the CPU with an i7
- Upgrade to the Ti Super 4070
- Switch the PSU to a more affordable yet efficient model
- Opt for a more budget-friendly motherboard. The MSi doesn’t offer WiFi 7 or strong VRM, so if you really need the i9, consider going back to the MSi.

The PC case is up to your choice. Meshify adds some cost but offers quality fans. North is a decent Fractal Design option. Montech AIR 903 BASE or MAX are affordable yet reliable.

Drives are up to you. Toshiba P300s are known for reliability and quiet operation, though WD Blues 5400rpm is quieter if noise is an issue. However, the performance gain from higher RPM drives is often negligible compared to SSDs.
I chose the Samsung as your primary drive for OS/Apps with a TeamGroup MP44L 2TB model, suitable for games and scratch disks. You can also store games on the HDD.
You might eliminate the HDD entirely and use just one Samsung and two MP44L drives.

The 4070 Super NON-Ti offers less performance, mainly due to its F-type 14700 chipset. It lacks an integrated GPU and an iGPU, making it a budget-friendly choice only if you don’t need one. If you’re not using an NVMe drive, cheaper AIO coolers are fine—they tend to last longer.
If the price drops significantly, maybe consider it.
