You can purchase the Steam version directly for one PC, download it, and move the files to another system without using Steam. There should be no DRM restrictions preventing this transfer.

You'd need to set up Steam on the PC you plan to use for playing Crysis if you purchase it from there. Sharing with family works, but you must have Steam installed. The original version is also available on GOG: https://www.gog.com/en/game/crysis

It seems the sole available copy on Steam is the remastered edition. It’s unclear why you’d have to transfer it to another machine before playing. Would it be possible to purchase it on GOG instead? https://www.gog.com/en/game/crysis

Oh no, it doesn't need any launchers or anything. Steam won't work on Windows versions other than 11 or 10 anymore.

GOG confirms you don’t require their launcher to enjoy any game they own, making it a secure platform for purchases.

I discovered GOG was controlled by CD Projekt only recently. It seems you often pick up fresh insights each day.

It shouldn't be like that. Most items on GOG come with DRM-free access right out of the gate.

Ugh... it took four hours. I got it from GOG as well—no problems. I also saved it during the time it takes to get a hot pocket. Fiber for the win! Have fun playing—it's still a great game.
